Attributing Creative Agency: Are we doing it right?

چکیده
When contemplating the creativity of computational systems, a host of factors have been taken into consideration, many of which people have attempted to measure or otherwise operationalise: novelty, value, P-creativity versus H-creativity, exploration versus transformation, the subjective evaluation and contextualisation of the artefact, and so on. Whilst of equal importance, the systematic and rigorous attribution of creative agency to different actors in the production of a specific output has been given less attention. It is common to make the simplifying assumption that the most direct contributor to an artefact is that artefact’s sole author, but arguably this is never the case: all human creativity occurs in the context of networks of mutual influence, including a cumulative pool of knowledge. This paper looks at how we might better formalise creative authorship such that for any artefact, a set of agents could be precisely attributed with their relative contributions to the existence of that entity. It asks only what the nature of this formalisation should be, and concludes that a more critical approach is needed to the creative agency of human actors, and thus the expected creative

متن کاملAgency Attribution in Infancy: Evidence for a Negativity Bias
Adults tend to attribute agency and intention to the causes of negative outcomes, even if those causes are obviously mechanical. Is this over-attribution of negative agency the result of years of practice with attributing agency to actual conspecifics, or is it a foundational aspect of our agency-detection system, present in the first year of life? Here we present two experiments with 6-month-o...
متن کاملPersonal Identity, Individual Autonomy and Group Rights
It is a commonplace in liberal circles that individual persons have a right to individual autonomy or self-determination. Each mentally competent adult has a right to be at liberty to live and shape their own life in accordance with their own view about what makes for a good life, free from undue coercion or interference by others, so long as they do not harm others. In the words of John Stuart...
متن کاملEvolving Minimally Creative Robots
We outline our motivations for using an evolutionary robotics approach to investigating creativity. We propose two necessary conditions that a robot must satisfy in order to demonstrate minimal creativity: agency; and novelty. Our preliminary results demonstrate that this methodology can produce simulated robots that mark their environments and interact with the lines that they have made. Our s...
متن کاملDevelopmental Process of Critical Thinking in Awareness of Violence and Social- Gender Stereotypes by Using P4C
Background and Aim: The objective of this study is to find how the properties of process of developing the critical thinking are in the male students, ages 6-12, in Awareness of Violence and Social- Gender Stereotypes by Using P4C. Method: the framework that emerged from these findings is defined by two thinking styles and six views of epistemology. The participants were 48 male pupils aged 6 ...
